If I Was Rich

If I was rich what would I do?
Would I live life different ? I think
I would have to
Would I go shopping every day?
in boutique shops in a flamboyant way

Would I stop cooking and eat all
my meals out?
In swanky restaurants who charge the
earth for meals consisting of nowt
Would I employ someone to do my
housework?
‘Cause if it’s their job then they
cannot shirk

Would I fly around visiting here and
there?
Never in my own bed ‘cause I am always
in the air
Would I move house so my home stands
alone?
No neighbours to chat to - well I would
never be home

Maybe being rich is not all it’s cracked
up to be
Maybe I like just being “me”
So those 6 little lottery numbers that
are so hard to find
Can go on escaping me - I don’t think I mind

Mr Sun Where Are You

Mr Sun Where Are You

I wish someone would tell the Sun it’s Summer
‘cause I don’t think he knows
He must be a bit mixed up about when he’s
supposed to show
My plants in the garden are feeling quite
chilly
It was warm when I planted them but now
they’re cold so was I silly?

Never cast a clout ‘till May is out I surely
did ignore
I was lulled by the early sun and thought
Summer has arrived once more
I have covered some with polythene to
shelter from any frost
Well I don’t want them to freeze to death
just think about the cost

I have checked the weather forecast - it
seems a bit up and down
I have switched my heating on and off the
bill will surely make me frown
So my little plants must be quite confused
I bet they wish they had a switch that they
could use

So Mr Sun will you please show your face
If you would like to repeat last summer’s show
well that would just be ace
We really like to see you and you know we
would enjoy your rays
So give Mr Cloud the elbow ‘cause he has
had his turn for too many days

Christmas is Done

Christmas and New Year all gone and done
What’s next in seasonal line to give us a bit fun
Has to be Valentine’s Day for some of us folk
But if you are my age it’s now just a bit of a joke

Of course before that you may have a birthday
to celebrate
Making not one but two forthcoming dates
So once all the shops are done with selling off
their Christmas goods
They will fill up with lovey dovey tokens and
Valentine type foods

And then comes Mother’s Day a kind of
blackmail event
Because who can ignore it and forget how
much their mother has always meant
Close on it’s heels we have Easter Sunday
With chocolate eggs and of course a
bank holiday

I consider that the bank holidays which
follow are best
Because it’s summer and your gift buying
can have a little rest
Until Halloween enters the autumn scene
Then it’s costumes and candy for trick a treating

Followed close by Guy Fawkes and fireworks
to light up the sky
But on safety grounds you can visit a display
that has been organized
Then guess what Christmas has arrived 
Didn't that 12 month fly and 2014 well the
four will soon be a five

Boxing Day Sales

Have you been to the sales
or was Christmas shopping enough?
Did you think you might but on
Boxing day you were feeling a bit rough?
Was there an item that Santa did
not bring?
Or things that need returning ‘cause
they are just not your thing?

My friend got up at some ungodly
hour
To swoop on Next their bargains to
devour
She arrived 10 minutes after they
opened up their door
To find all the racks empty but crowds
of Muslim ladies sitting on the floor

Where were all the bargains all she
could see were Santa type clothes
Then she noticed on the floor sat
ladies with bags packed and overflowed
As they sorted through all the items they
had scooped from the rails
She realized that they had the Next sale
nailed

So back home to her bed empty handed
she did go
Deciding this was the last time that to the
Next sale she would show
Whilst I off to town to exchange an item
of wrong size
Also noticed that the shops were full of
Muslim ladies who are obviously wise

Christmas is not their religious festival so no
presents to be bought in time for the day
They can wait for Boxing Day sales and
get great bargains that way
Trollies and bags overflowing in Primark
they were going mad
No doubt it’s a great shopping day for them
look at all the bargains to be had

So no more bargain hunting for me until
the New Year
I cannot be bothered to wade through the
clutter I just don’t care
I will leave it to the veiled ladies who seem
to have it all sussed
Because Boxing Day Sales well I am really
just not fussed

Christmas Check List

Have you sorted your cards are your
presents all wrapped?
Or are you starting to feel like a rat
in a trap?
Is the Christmas cake made and
has it been decorated?
Or are you not bothering this year
‘cause cake is overrated?

Have you planned all the pre Christmas
visits which you need to do?
To deliver cards and gifts which are
from you
Is the turkey in the deep freeze and did
you mange to fit it in?
Or did you have to make room and put
things in the bin?

Have you put up your tree hoping the
lights will not blow?
Have you got spare bulbs so that you
don’t lose that Christmas glow?
Have you got some spare cards with
stamps on to go?
Because you always get some from
folk you hardly know

What about your house is it spick and
span?
Because don’t think Santa will not notice
just ‘cause he’s a man
Have you got a general gift ready wrapped
just in case?
You are surprised by a prezzie and you don’t
want to lose face

I am sure you are organized or if not
you soon will be
Because it’s what woman do they are
pretty wonderful you see
So once you have check listed all your
Christmas chores my friend
Settle down to a day full of hype, cooking,
excited kids etc until Christmas day once more ends....

Flu Jab

I had my flu jab yesterday
It did not hurt when she did it
by the way
But by bedtime it was sore a bit
that I could not lie down on it

But if it prevents a flu epidemic
coming my way
I will suffer a sore arm for a day
I have had flu several times you
see
It seems to like clinging to me

My friend says she has never had
flu
I am gobsmacked at this - are you?
But another friend who did not get
her shot last year
Landed in hospital with bad flu and
needed special care

Mind I have not had the pneumonia
one
I think two at once is really not on
So if you have a sore arm with
your jab like me
Just think of the benefits a flu jab
can be ...

Mind Of It's Own

It’s hot today I have heard folk say
We are not prepared for this kind of day
But by it’s grand to see so many folk out
enjoying the sun
In their summer togs designed for holiday
fun

How long will it take the water companies to
cry
We have had no rain so water is in short supply
Maybe they should keep more stocks here at home
Instead of selling it off to every foreign zone

So get your cars washed and the garden well wet
Pip them to the post - off your mark get set
Time whizzes past at a galloping pase
Summer will have gone so make great haste

Barbeques out even if you are sick of eating burnt food
It’s compulsory when the weather is this good
Take the kids to the beach with a thousand other folk
Trying to find a parking space at a sunny beach is a joke

Holiday is pending you have saved for it all year
To fly to a far flung destination ensuring the sun will be there
Had you known that the sun was capable of staying at home
Then you could have done the same - weather it has a mind of it’s own
