Boxing Day Sales

Have you been to the sales
or was Christmas shopping enough?
Did you think you might but on
Boxing day you were feeling a bit rough?
Was there an item that Santa did
not bring?
Or things that need returning ‘cause
they are just not your thing?

My friend got up at some ungodly
hour
To swoop on Next their bargains to
devour
She arrived 10 minutes after they
opened up their door
To find all the racks empty but crowds
of Muslim ladies sitting on the floor

Where were all the bargains all she
could see were Santa type clothes
Then she noticed on the floor sat
ladies with bags packed and overflowed
As they sorted through all the items they
had scooped from the rails
She realized that they had the Next sale
nailed

So back home to her bed empty handed
she did go
Deciding this was the last time that to the
Next sale she would show
Whilst I off to town to exchange an item
of wrong size
Also noticed that the shops were full of
Muslim ladies who are obviously wise

Christmas is not their religious festival so no
presents to be bought in time for the day
They can wait for Boxing Day sales and
get great bargains that way
Trollies and bags overflowing in Primark
they were going mad
No doubt it’s a great shopping day for them
look at all the bargains to be had

So no more bargain hunting for me until
the New Year
I cannot be bothered to wade through the
clutter I just don’t care
I will leave it to the veiled ladies who seem
to have it all sussed
Because Boxing Day Sales well I am really
just not fussed

Christmas Check List

Have you sorted your cards are your
presents all wrapped?
Or are you starting to feel like a rat
in a trap?
Is the Christmas cake made and
has it been decorated?
Or are you not bothering this year
‘cause cake is overrated?

Have you planned all the pre Christmas
visits which you need to do?
To deliver cards and gifts which are
from you
Is the turkey in the deep freeze and did
you mange to fit it in?
Or did you have to make room and put
things in the bin?

Have you put up your tree hoping the
lights will not blow?
Have you got spare bulbs so that you
don’t lose that Christmas glow?
Have you got some spare cards with
stamps on to go?
Because you always get some from
folk you hardly know

What about your house is it spick and
span?
Because don’t think Santa will not notice
just ‘cause he’s a man
Have you got a general gift ready wrapped
just in case?
You are surprised by a prezzie and you don’t
want to lose face

I am sure you are organized or if not
you soon will be
Because it’s what woman do they are
pretty wonderful you see
So once you have check listed all your
Christmas chores my friend
Settle down to a day full of hype, cooking,
excited kids etc until Christmas day once more ends....

Flu Jab

I had my flu jab yesterday
It did not hurt when she did it
by the way
But by bedtime it was sore a bit
that I could not lie down on it

But if it prevents a flu epidemic
coming my way
I will suffer a sore arm for a day
I have had flu several times you
see
It seems to like clinging to me

My friend says she has never had
flu
I am gobsmacked at this - are you?
But another friend who did not get
her shot last year
Landed in hospital with bad flu and
needed special care

Mind I have not had the pneumonia
one
I think two at once is really not on
So if you have a sore arm with
your jab like me
Just think of the benefits a flu jab
can be ...

Mind Of It's Own

It’s hot today I have heard folk say
We are not prepared for this kind of day
But by it’s grand to see so many folk out
enjoying the sun
In their summer togs designed for holiday
fun

How long will it take the water companies to
cry
We have had no rain so water is in short supply
Maybe they should keep more stocks here at home
Instead of selling it off to every foreign zone

So get your cars washed and the garden well wet
Pip them to the post - off your mark get set
Time whizzes past at a galloping pase
Summer will have gone so make great haste

Barbeques out even if you are sick of eating burnt food
It’s compulsory when the weather is this good
Take the kids to the beach with a thousand other folk
Trying to find a parking space at a sunny beach is a joke

Holiday is pending you have saved for it all year
To fly to a far flung destination ensuring the sun will be there
Had you known that the sun was capable of staying at home
Then you could have done the same - weather it has a mind of it’s own

Remember Father's Day

When I was a child on Mothering Sunday my
father would always say
Why is there not a Father’s Day?
Now in America Father’s Day was started in 1908
But it was not until the 1970’s that the UK celebrated
a Father’s Day

I am so very glad that dad got to see
A Father’s Day arrive so he could get gifts from me
However it has never reached the same height as
Mother’s Day
However much advertising it does not seem to have
gone the same way

So if you have a dad to remember on Father’s Day
Please remember my dad who used to say....
“When are they going to make a Father’s Day?”
Well now they have done so please send your dad a card
with a nice verse to say.......

Thatcher Style

Apparently the latest hair craze is the
Maggie Bouffant
Sounds a bit mad and not a style that
I would want
I have heard it said it portrays a person
of power
Maybe that’s because it’s piled up like
a tower

The manufacturers of hair spray must be
very pleased
As it will take a can to keep up all the hair
that is teased
And makers of combs will also be in line for
an up
As you cannot backcomb hair with a rake or
a brush

It always seemed an old fashioned style to me
Seen on the queen or older dignities
But as we all know fashion goes around and around
So maybe there will soon be lots of Maggie’s barnets to
be found

Game Apps

To all my facebook friends .....

Kindly note - I only play app games when my grandson
forces me to
‘Cause it’s not something I like to do
I can find a lot more interesting ways to use my time
But if you like these games then that’s fine

But game requests please do not send to me
Because I will ignore them as you will see
They leave me cold I would rather read a book
But I don’t blame you if you are hooked

I do have some games on my kindle I admit
But it’s for the benefit of my grandson - he uses it
You will not catch me playing a game on facebook - Oh no
Because as I have said before game requests sorry I just
don’t want to know

Where is Spring?

The first day of Spring has come and gone
but no spring flowers are blooming or birds singing
spring songs
Winter has returned well did it ever go?
Easter is now the new Christmas you know

The trees are still bare no leaves shooting through
Our gardens are sad as no spring planting can we do
Who wants to look at the shops summer fare?
Not me at the moment it’s too cold to care

Indeed leaving the house holds little pleasure
The warmth of inside is now a thing to treasure
Well you may think tasks inside could be done
But NO  it makes us lethargic when there is no sun

Mother’s day is early this year
So do not forget to show you care
March 10th is the date so do not forget
Because you only have a few days left

Flowers, chocolates - shops making the most
It’s a big day of the year for retail to host
Nice for mums but difficult for offspring
An extra birthday present to bring

The very special presents for me
Were the handmade gifts when my children were wee
The pride in their faces when giving their gifts
What a wonderful thing to give you a lift

So mothers it’s a special day for you
and kids, I know, it’s another chore to do
But remember you only have one mum
and she will always be your very best chum

My Sister's Birthday

Today I am so very sad that you are not here with me

Because today was your birthday so I am sad as sad can be

You looked forward to my retirement to spend more time with me
but you never got to see that day how cruel life can be

You were always very happy to go anywhere with me
and I think about this when I visit somewhere I know you would
like to be
I hear myself saying “our Anne would of enjoyed this” I know
So I have a bit of sadness that never seems to go

To lose your only sibling is as difficult as can be
Now no parents, brother sister only me you see
Life passes very quickly more so the older that you get
You do not think it possible? well wait awhile because you
obviously are not there yet

So my dearest sister if there is a place that you may be
I hope that you are listening and that you can see
I think about you often especially on days such as these
In my heart you are with me and I take you many places still you see

Is James Coming Out to Play

I heard a little tap on my front door today
I opened it and a small voice said is
James coming out to play
I tried to explain James did not live here
But he looked up at me and it did not seem clear

I tried to explain James came to stay
Because his own home was a distance away
So when he visited his Nana he would happily
like to play
But that would not be today

The little face looked blankly up at me
I could not seem to make him see
I heard his mummy call to him to come away
So I explained to her James is not here today

Eating Horsey Horsey?

Burger King, McDonalds and now Findus
Don’t they know in Britain eating horses ain’t for us
They may like to eat it in their foreign cuisine
But here in good old blighty it’s just not our scene

They tell us it’s tender and less fatty than beef
But then add horses are injected with drugs
which ain’t good to eat
In Britain horses are reared for folk to ride
Not produced to be fed to us on the side

But folks I have a simple answer to this
Oh yes it’s simple just cook your own dish
Then you will know what goes inside of you
and by the way it’s a lot cheaper too.

How are you doing? facebook keep’s asking me
Well as I am on their page surely they can see
I am sitting in my home on my laptop
Looking to see what new things they have got

Informing, amusing comments to keep up with friends
That’s my intention to see what it sends
But I know folk who have reasons to gripe
Because someone said things that were not nice

We know who can see the posts that we send
So remember this before you post anything that
could bring a friendship to end
It’s a nice social tool if you use it the right way
It can make the difference between a nice or sad day

So the next time you click on your facebook page
Don’t do it if you are in a temper to rage
Remember to read what you write before you press send

Valentine's Day is coming....

We are at that time of year once more
When lovers declare their love to the one they adore
Yes Valentine’s day is almost here
But of it’s history are you clear

Various legends have been written but which are true
No-one knows but the one I favour and will tell to you
Is about a roman in they year 269AD
Who refused to give up his belief in Christianity

Whilst imprisoned he befriended his jailers daughter
and before he was taken to his fate of being slaughtered
He wrote a note to this lady signing it “from your Valentine” 
I wonder what is said - surely not “will you be mine”.

If I Won The Lottery

If I won the lottery what would I do ?
Would it change my life? - well I suppose it has to
Pack in your job  - that’s what most folk do
Well I retired 2 years ago so that would not be new

Buy a bigger house - what at my age I don’t think so
Making extra household chores which get harder you know
A new car, sporty, snazzy or what
To tell the truth I am happy with the little one I’ve got

Travel - go to exotic places and lie around in the sun
Do I want the hassle? not really it has ceased to be fun
Treat your family and friends - make life easier for them all
Yes that is a one I would value it would be a good call

Taking away the worry of having enough cash to do
No worry when things need done and it does not need to be done by you
Yes I like that one it takes away the stress
Having the funds to call a man when you are in a mess

It is quite obvious that the lottery should be won by the young
Then they can appreciate the spending it takes to have fun
So my conclusion is it would be very nice
To help friends and family but for me my needs are sufficed

It's All Over For Another Year

It’s all over - bit the dust
Yes Christmas all done - no more fuss
Decorations put away for another year
Yes I know its not 12th night and the room looks bare

But I am pleased to be back into routine
and I am sorry if that sounds a bit mean
But it is a lot of extra work you must admit
and harder when you are older and not so fit

Christmas is for children who love it I know
and for parents who watch their offspring’s faces glow
So when you have passed this time in your life
You should be excused from this Christmas strife

This moan I know shows off my advancing years
and the coughing bug added to my don’t cares
So will I be doing this all again in eleven months time
Probably because we follow traditions and tow the line
